BIOGRAPHY

Virgil Popa is a Spanish conductor of Romanian origin, born in 1975 in a small village of north-east Romania.

He studied double-bass and conducting at “George Enescu” University of Arts in Iasi Romania. After graduating, he continued his studies with great masters as, Jorma Panula and Enrique García Asensio, specializing in Musical Phenomenology and Celibidache´s conducting technique.

 

Between 2000-2014 he was constantly improving both as conductor and instrumentalist, following masterclasses throughout Europe, being a disciple of names such as Kurt Mazur (Berlin), George Pehlivanian (Madrid), Nicolas Carthy (Sornetan), Vladimir Jurowski (Berlin), Wolfgang Guttler (San Sebastian), Klaus Trumpf (Berlin), Christian Thielemann, Ferenc Gabor and Martin Schaal (Bayreuth), Cristian Orosanu (Brasov), Dumitru Goia (Cluj), Konrad von Abel (Bucharest).
